Hello!

My data science journey started with a slight interest in programming and a desire to be helpful.

I initially entered my undergraduate studies as a pre-med student. While working as a research assistant in an oncology clinical research lab at Northwestern University, I quickly realized a big need in our lab was a statistical programmer. Our lab members consisted of physicians, med students, and pre-med students, many of whom had zero programming experience. Since I already had a small interest in coding, I decided to take an R course to fill this gap in our lab. It turned out, the only courses at Northwestern that teach in R were our Data Science courses. Although I at first envisioned learning just the basics of statistical programming in R, I entered the world of data science and learned so much more, including data cleaning, data wrangling, data visualization, and predictive modeling. From there, I decided to add a Data Science major and pursue this career path.

While finishing up my undergraduate studies, I gained industry experience through internships. I worked as a data science intern at Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO) where I created a junk term classification NLP model for their product workflow. I also developed a user-friendly predictor script for a BERT neural network model at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a data science research intern.

Besides data science, I enjoy reading! My favorite authors include James Baldwin, Kazuo Ishiguro, and Shirley Jackson.
